Our Destination Wedding in Cabo
I can’t believe it’s been 5 months since my husband and I got married in Cabo. After all the months of planning and researching different locations and resorts, it was so beautiful to see it all come to fruition. We were originally researching venues and resorts to marry in the Philippines, but with the flight and accommodations, it got really complicated really quick.
There are a few reasons why we decided to get married in Cabo. Besides the accessibility and perfect weather and scenery, Cabo is a special place for Jeff and I since that is where he proposed. While we didn’t get married at the same resort we got engaged at, we still loved the resort we chose. We researched resorts all over Mexico, but Cabo Azul stood out to us because of their beautiful open air chapel.

From the moment we arrived at the resort, to say we were impressed is an understatement. You see, our wedding weekend was our first time actually at the resort. Normally, people would not recommend not seeing your wedding venue in person before the wedding day, but we felt so confident in our choice based on our experience with the wedding planner and our own research.
Cabo Azul Weddings offer multiple locations for the ceremony and reception depending on the amount of people you will have at your wedding. We had 47 guests and chose the Open Air Corazon Chapel for our ceremony and Javier’s Oceanfront Deck & Firepit for our reception.
The day before the wedding

The day before the wedding we did one final check in and walk through with our wedding planner, which Cabo Azul provides. We were able to bring some items for the wedding, so we dropped those off at the office so they could set it up the following day. Some of the items we brought were table numbers, personalized luggage tags for place cards, seating chart, pictures and frames for the memorial table, and post cards and box for the “guestbook”.
After meeting with the wedding planner we had our rehearsal with the rest of the wedding party. This only took about half an hour, and right after we headed over to our welcome party on the beach. If you are doing a destination wedding, I highly recommend having a welcome party the night before the wedding with all of your guests! Time is so limited on the wedding day, so it was nice to have an extra night to spend with our guests. We felt it was the least we could do when all of our guests took the time to celebrate a weekend with us. We had our welcome party on the private beach area right in front of Javier’s and had tacos with beers and margaritas for dinner.
My now husband and I said our goodbyes for the night and followed tradition by sleeping in separate rooms the night before the wedding. I stayed in our room with my matron of honor, while Jeff slept over in his brother’s room. That night I finished writing my vows, steamed my wedding dress, and headed to bed for an early morning.
Morning of the wedding
Since I decided to do my own hair and makeup, I didn’t have to get up until 8AM. I had all of my bridesmaids come to the room around that time so we could all get ready together. Find all my bridal favorites here. We ended up having PLENTY of time to get ready, and even had time to make a few TikToks before the photographer arrived. Our room had a beautiful patio area which was perfect for getting ready photos. Luckily, Jeff’s brother’s room was practically on the opposite side so we didn’t have any issue of running into each other.
The photographers arrived at both of our rooms around 3PM. We went with EM Weddings for photography and videography which was recommended by Cabo Azul. Once the photographers arrived, time started flying by. Thanks to Daniela, the wedding planner, she made sure we were staying on time throughout the entire day. I did a couple first looks with my bridesmaids and dad and before I knew it, it was time to head out of the room and marry the love of my life!
Ceremony
We had our first look down the aisle, and it. was. everything. Just pure bliss being walked down the aisle by my dad and seeing Jeff at the end while the violinist was playing “Can’t Help Falling in Love”. The ceremony felt like a dream. I remember I kept thinking to myself, “the day is actually here, and this is really happening!!”. I also kept reminding myself to take it all in, knowing the day goes by so fast. For the ceremony, Cabo Azul made recommendations for the officiant, but we were lucky that Jeff’s brother kindly officiated our wedding, which made it even more special.
After the ceremony, we had a cocktail hour for the guests at the firepit while Jeff and I took pictures on the beach with the sunset 🥲 We got a glimpse of the reception area and it was just what we imagined. We kept decor at what is considered a minimum and simple, but when the venue itself is already so beautiful, we felt there wasn’t a need to add much more.
Reception
Daniela was sweet enough to have appetizers and drinks for us ready to go before we did our entrance and reception. We were HUNGRY. I don’t even remember how many apps we stuffed in our mouths before walking out, but it was all so good. ALL of the food and drinks were so good! We did the Mexican buffet and I wish I ate more. I often heard of brides before saying they couldn’t eat much of their dinner at their wedding because of all of the adrenaline and hosting, and it is so truuuuuue 😭 I even asked ahead of time if I could have a plate saved for me for the end of the night, but unfortunately they couldn’t do that due to food safety concerns ☹️
Once we all had dinner and speeches were done, we had fireworks for all of our guests before opening up the dance floor. IT WAS MAGICAL and something every couple planning a wedding at Cabo Azul should really consider. The rest of the night was filled with dancing, drinks, and pictures at the photobooth. What I loved about the reception at Javier’s Deck & Firepit is that the fire pit was open for people to relax and hangout at in case they wanted to get away from the dance floor for a little bit.
Around 10 PM we had the late night snacks (churros & sliders) come out and before we knew it, the night was over! Our wedding planner took us back to the room where the resort had decorated our room with rose petals and the hot tub filled! They even had some chocolate covered strawberries for us. It may seem like something so simple, but it was that attention to the little things that really made our experience at Cabo Azul so memorable. Our wedding day was the best day of our lives and everything we dreamed it would be. I can’t recommend or thank Cabo Azul enough for making the day run as seamless as possible.
